[2007-02-03]A new year is upon us and new technologies. For me it is the GeForce 8800 GTS card. As with many others I have encountered the dreaded near unsolvable NV4.disp infinite loop blue screen of death problem. I was soo close to return my card until I stumbled upon a solution that I'm still trying out. The card it seems, is prone to like heat and draws alot of energy. The program controlling the GPU fan is set to automatic which more or less means off. By simple adjusting this with the NVidia control panel and then manual set the GPU fan speed to somewhere around 80%-90& seems to solve the problem with NV4.disp errors in most games. However, the NVidia control panel is so lousy made that you have to do this every bloody time you start your computer :(. If anyone knows how to solve this, please contact me. Hopefully NVidia will make drivers that will remember the settings and keep them between shutting on and off the computer. How is the 8800 GTS card otherwise? Well it ran beautiful all games I had bnut sionce the NV4.disp error I have always the gnawing feeling that it will return as soon as I play a game and that distracts alot. I'm still unsure wether to keep the damned thing or change it to something more tested.Well, now I have played Oblivion, the real NV4.disp BSOD-game, for several hours and not one problem. Weird. Games run really good once the problems are not there. Guess I will give the 88000 card one more chance to prove its metal. |

http://www.glop.org/starforce/ Good site to learn more about StarForce and to keep a lookout for which games are StarForced and not. Read the forums sonce the publishers use different copy protections around the world, and some listen more to consumers then others. |
