dawn of war
There is something about Warhammer. A dark settig from Games Workshop, a world where Chaos is threatening to consume the world. Massive battles and of course, amazing graphical artitist that makes it all take form.
There is something special about Warhammer 40.000. A darker setting from Games Workshop... Sorry, just couldn't help myself. Dawn of War is your average tabletop game of Warhammer 40k (W40k) come alive. If you are new to WH40k universe, it is a setting taking place FAAAAAR away in the future, so far none could really argue about it. The humans are widespread among the stars and are lead by the Emperor. he Emperor is a really strong dei god of a psychic who guides the human race against chaos and treacherous aliens. The aliens in this games are, Eldars (Elves) Orks, goblins, gene stealers Tyranids etc. Get the feeling? Fantasy races battle it out in the future and a really dark sinister core explaing to why. But playing the game you don't have to fiure all out, it is a RTS, a real time strategy game, that is wonderful to behold.
The gema itslef reminds me some of Star Craft. Which is in my opinion really good. You have your heroes in the single player campaign that can do alot of fun things, and then you have your average units from the WH40k universe to battle it out. The game really awards going for frontal aauslt thinking. Instead of mining and harvesting you get points to buy and upgrade buildings and units by taking and holding victory places. If you start base building too much you will spend too much of your resources making a poor defense when you will be rushed by the enemy troops. Base building is not really what this game is about. You can help to dfend your base with gun turrets etc, but it s your troops and vehicles that does the most damage. The armies doesn't get awfully big so you will soon max out your army and then just add to the fallen lines, make sure they get weapons for their roles and then bring it on. The groundtroops are no push overs. A space marine squad can in good trrain hold of enemy tanks and with a good and sound use of the boast moarale of the sergeants you can storm them and make metal crap of it. The units are better the more research and upgrades you have.
The biggest problem with this game is that you can zoom in really close, but not very far above so you have to have a good control of how to get to the trouble area quickly, mini map mastery!, and alos learn when to press the space bar to center on the events that game voice calls out. The ground level zoom is awesome to play with and one can easily found yourself disracted by watching the gory fights close up instead of making a good command.
