heroes of might and magic - dark mesiahI don't know how many of you who remember or played the Hexen games, Dark Messiah sure brings some memories. The game is played in first person, but instead of shotguns etc, you wield daggers, swords, staffs, bows or cast magic. The game is very much like Halflife 2, same engine, however a few things are not the same. Some of the things that are very clear is the moment: it is not a smooth ride you are given, Sareth, the guy you play, sure don't move like a Ninja, rather like a stiff legged warrior in a tincan suit or a stiff legged wizard. Regardless of how much you spend experience points in stealth or other abilities, you don't feel that much better. So an unwieldy game that makes you sometimes feel like your in for a bumpy ride still brings alot of fun. The numerous setups are fun, you can usually avoid direct contact in many areas and sneak up and shoot off ropes and make things fall, roll, burn to make the life a lot harder for your enemies. The magic is not scalable but rahter like weapons you buy for experience and load up with mana to cast. Unfortunately most of the good magic costs alot of mana to cast and takes a long time to cast at that. This makes certain areas really hard to beat if you have overspecialisd. All in all, the game is fun ride unless you like me really hate spiders, cause their are alot of spiders in this game and it made me, together with the unsmooth graphics, quite nautious sometimes. One more thing that bothers me is the quickbar with items, you can't setup a shield and sword but they take up one spot each, and that is bothersome. Also it is hard to understand how scrolls and magic works sometimes, sometimes you go back to wielding a sword, sometimes you go back to having the spell get ready for reuse. Even more bothersome actually since you sometimes have to relad cause you died after not having spells or equipment working as they used to in the last fight. -Wolfgir- |
